Vertigo
I’ll start out with what I consider the worst symptom, (although if I had to choose I can’t think of one of the symptoms I would pick to keep…) Anyway, vertigo that comes and goes (episodic vertigo is what they call it.) The vertigo for me has typically been rotational vertigo. This is where it feels as though the world is swirling in a circle. In fact, for me, I kind of liken it to one of those “fun rides” where you walk through the tunnel that goes through the middle of the rotating tube. During these spells it’s as though everything I look at is spinning clockwise and it’s a struggle to look straight ahead.
Bad attacks of rotational vertigo are extremely disabling. (Lay down and wait for it to stop.) Vertigo attacks can last for as little as a few minutes up to a few hours. I distinguish the real vertigo attacks as being different from a feeling of dizziness as they are many times in magnitude more debilitating.
Usually, with the bad vertigo comes nausea and vomiting. These are not officially symptoms of meniere’s disease, but come with all the other “fun” stuff.
I have never been seasick before my first vertigo attack. Then I was sick on dry land.
I have heard of some people using seasick medicines to try to blunt the vertigo attacks and nausea.
