Low Frequency Hearing Loss

While most causes of hearing loss tend to affect the higher end of the auditory spectrum first (age and loud noise exposure related loss typically follows this trend), Meniere’s related hearing loss is primarily Low frequency first. This hearing loss initially varies over time, however ultimately if things are uncontrolled, then the loss will be progressive and permanent.

Sudden losses of hearing can be fought (by many reports successfully) with prednasone (prednisone?) This requires a prescription and in some cases has been seen to preserve and even recuperate some hearing loss if it’s administered quickly after the loss.

Many times an auditory test matching the “classic” pattern of Meniere’s related hearing loss as well as a consultation of the basic symptoms are enough for an initial diagnosis of Meniere’s Disease.
